Caloric Intake Factors

Caloric Intake
Calorie intake is controlled by a large amount of variables, not all of which are related to a person's medical conditions. Different body types, and the factors which decide body type, are all important to calorie intake. For example, someone weighing 220lbs at 6'4" will have a higher calorie intake than a 120lb. person at 5'3". Diabetes is not a large factor in determining calorie intake volume, but rather plays a role in the form calories are consumed in. Foods high in sugar are limited in a diabetic's diet, but other sources, such as proteins and fats can help cover the deficit. On average, diabetic people have a larger calorie requirement due to a majority of diabetics being Type 2, which occurs from major dietary imbalance towards sugar, compounding the problem. Overweight people are also prone to developing type II diabetes, so the average body type of a diabetic is on the heavier side. Larger and heavier people require more calories, as they need more energy to power their bodies. Diabetes will, on average, be a factor in increasing the required calorie intake. Other factors such as gender, age, level of physical activity, body composition, all factor in, and each of these factors can have much more effect than the presence of diabetes.
