Foods to Avoid
Certain foods should be omitted from our
diets. Conditions such as diabetes expand this list greatly, as diabetes
entails a low sugar tolerance. Teenagers consume a large amount of sugary food
worldwide. In 2016, according to NewsComAu, teenage boys were consuming 38
teaspoons of sugar a day. Diabetic teenagers need to control their sugar
levels, so consumption of this magnitude is out of the question. The primary
sources of sugar intake are sugary drinks, such as sodas and juices. Other
sources include pastries and dairy desserts. A 16 oz. bottle of coca cola has
52 grams of sugar, so these types of drinks and sweets are to be avoided
completely. Other, non diabetes specific foods that should be avoided/limited
are foods high in saturated fat, such as solid butters and fatty meats.
Avoiding or limiting these helps to control fat in the body and have a healthy
diet, since a healthy diet has a low saturated fat content. All trans fat
should be avoided. If a product has trans fat, it should be completely omitted
from the diet, as trans fat has been shown to cause cancers.
